The English style rums is the one with the greatest history and therefore the oldest
style of rum. This rum is distilled in pot stills, just like whiskey is.
A pot still is a kind of large kettle that is heated so that the alcohol vapors
rise and precipitate again via the pipe as alcohol in liquid form.
This is how distillation is done. The English style rums are also almost all aged
in an oak barrel. The Rum comes a lot from former British colonies such as Barbados,
Trinidad and Jaimaica. The rum is made from molasses, which is a kind
of syrupy by-product of sugar cane and sugar beets.
Characteristic of this style is the dark color and the strong flavours: spicy, aromatic.
The rums of the English rum style are therefore loved for their rich aromas and quality.
